British Railways No. 46159 was originally built by London Midland and Scottish Railway, at Derby Locomotive Works, in August 1930 as No. 6159, at a cost of £6,467. The locomotive was named 'The Royal Air Force' in October 1931. It is believed to be the first locomotive to carry a name associated with Military Aeronautics.
