In 1955 the USAF started to develop an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM). The project, designated 315A, was given top priority. In December 1955, the Douglas Aircraft Company was awarded the prime contract. The 315A was re-designated SM-75 THOR and delivered to USAF in October 1956.

Crossley 4x2 Light Tender

The Crossley light tender was the standard RFC personnel carrier. Its capacity was typically 11 seats and was powered by a four cylinder petrol engine.

Vickers FB 5 'Gunbus' (Replica)

The 'Gunbus' was Vickers' first military aircraft. In February 1915 during the First World War, it equipped the first British two-seat fighter squadron – No. 11 at Netheravon. It flew its first patrol in France on 29 July 1915 and proved very successful.

Supermarine Southampton Mk I

Supermarine Southamptons were the first RAF flying boat designed after the First World War. They entered RAF service in 1925 at RAF Calshot, Hampshire and were used for maritime patrol around the world.

The Bedford OXC tractor was developed with the assistance of Scammell, pioneers in the development of articulated lorries, now used extensively for transporting goods by road. The Bedford was one of two tractors used with an articulated aircraft recovery trailer, commonly known as a Queen Mary (after the ship of the same name).

Supermarine Stranraer 920/CF-BXO

The Stranraer was the final development of the Southampton flying boat to be put into production and was one of the world’s last biplane flying boats. The Museum's example served in Canada during the Second World War.

Sopwith Triplane

The Triplane was a highly manoeuvrable single-seat scout with phenomenal rates of climb and roll. The arrival of the Triplane on the Western Front in early 1917 made such an impression on the Germans that they asked their manufacturers to produce triplane fighters, leading to the Fokker Dr1 of 'Red Baron' fame.

English Electric P1A

The first flight of P1 WG760 was on 4 August 1954, just 10 years after the RAF’s first jet aircraft, the Meteor, entered squadron service. It was experimental and was the basis for the RAF’s front line fighter, the English Electric Lightning.
