The Bedford OXC tractor was developed with the assistance of Scammell, pioneers in the development of articulated lorries, now used extensively for transporting goods by road. The Bedford was one of two tractors used with an articulated aircraft recovery trailer, commonly known as a Queen Mary (after the ship of the same name).

Short Stirling Mk III

This Stirling served with No. 1651 Heavy Conversion Unit, where new aircrew gained the skills to fly heavy bombers. It crashed during a training flight in the Pennines on the night of 18–19 October 1944.

Type C Mk II Bomb Trolley

Bomb trolleys were used to transport munitions from their storage area to aircraft. The versatile Type C trolley could carry a range of bombs of different shapes and sizes up to a weight of 6,000lb.

Westland Lysander Mk. III

Westland Lysanders are best known for transporting secret agents to and from occupied France during the Second World War. This Lysander first flew with No. 255 Squadron in 1940, but later flew with No. 161 (Special Duties) Squadron from October 1944.

COW Gun, 1½ lb, Mk III

The Coventry Ordnance Works, (COW) Quick Firing, 1½ Pounder, gun was an automatic cannon which was tested in various airframes form the First World War, to the 1930s. It was finally adopted as the armament for the Blackburn Perth flying boat which saw squadron service between 1934 and 1936.

Westland Wallace Mk. II

The Westland Wallace was a general purpose two seat biplane operated by the Royal Air Force from 1933-1943. The Museum’s Wallace had a short operational life, serving with No. 502 Squadron between 1936 and 1937, before moving to the Electrical and Wireless School at RAF Cranwell.
