During the 1990s the RAF would undertake both offensive and peacekeeping role in the Balkans. The Implementation Force (IFOR) was a NATO-led peace-keeping force which operated in the former Yugoslavian provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The first protective helmet to have integrated communications, the Mk 2 series had a weighted bar which would force the visor down to protect the face in the event of a cockpit ejection.

The Trucial Omani Scouts was a security force established in 1951 to defend the seven emirates of Trucial Oman which now form the United Arab Emirates. Headquartered at RAF Sharjah, the Scouts were made up of both British military and local personnel.

William Owen served as an Observer with No. 235 Squadron during the Battle of Britain, flying in Bristol Blenheim fighters that provided convoy protection, fighter patrols and anti-shipping patrols over the English Channel and North Sea.

The volunteers of the Observer Corps were a vital link in Britain's aerial defences. They reported the strength, height and direction of incoming raids. In 1941 the ROC was awarded the Royal title in recognition of the contribution it made during the Battle of Britain.
