Steel triangular in form (3-edge) blade with pointed tip. Cross guard with muzzle-ring and hooked "blade-breaker" quillon. Solid brass pommel with integral latching mechanism (push-button/spring-steel). Two piece wooden grip scales fixed by two rivets. Complete with black painted steel ball end scabbard with strap fitting below the throat.

42mm crimson ribbon edged in gold. Silver medal. Obverse shows a left facing bust of Queen Victoria wearing a veil and a coronet, her name and the date of elevation to Empress - 1877- being inscribed around the circumference. Reverse - a broad zigzag border enclosing the words Empress of India and its equivalent in Punjabi and Hindi across the medal. Engraved on rim - A.W.Moore.
