A genuine aircraft Lewis gun substantially modified by the welding of a member below the barrel onto which a handle has been fitted. This enables the weapon to be held and fired like a Thompson sub-machine gun. Possibly a Home Guard modification from 1940.

Round peaked cap with dark blue crown, black mohair band and glazed leather peak and chin strap. The crown stiffened with a circlet of cane, not wire so as not to upset magenetic compasses. The band bearing a red embroidered RAF crowned eagle badge See Historical Note.. Silk lining. Note: the original RAF badge removed and returned to store November 1997 and the correct RNAS badge applied.

Black moulded leather crown with a front peak bound in yellow alloy and a rear peak unbound. Yellow alloy spike on the top of the crown and a reinforcing bar extending down the back of the crown and over the rear peak. The front decorated with a plate showing the griffin (part eagle, part lion) with a sword clutching the Baden State shield. Yellow alloy cockades retained behind the fixing for the chin strap at sides between the two peaks. The right cockade painted in the German national colours - red, white and black; the left cockade painted in the State colours - a red ring on a yellow cockade. Leather lining with holes to keep the helmet suspended on the wearer's head.

Long, narrow band of khaki serge fabric cut on a curve and wider in the middle part than at the ends so as to ft to the calf of the leg. Hem-stitched at both edges. Cut into an angled point at one end where a length of thin leather is sewn to the inner face. Folded into a point at the other end and fitted with a long pale green cotton fastening tape.
