Brown leather oval mask including nose cover retaining individual, pear-shaped, symetrical white alloy frames, on spring loaded, fabric-covered sides with pale yellow tinted windows. Gold Triplex Safety Glass logo stamps on both ends of the leather mask and traces of gold paper TSG seal on left window. Lining cream-coloured leather with remnants of grey fur, the edges of the frames covered in chenille padding. Brown elastic head strap, roughly sewn and knotted to metal fixings. Both windows cracked. The owner appears to have taken the windows and frames out of another pair of goggles and added them to this leather mask. The eye pieces are sewn onto the remains of the spring-loaded fabric surrounds to the former frames. The centre line of the mask shows signs that other fittings had been there previously. At one end of the centre line there is a sewn button and at the other an iron stud with surrounding plate rivetted to the leather. These fixings presumably engaged with cord or elastic loops on the top and bottom of a cowl type flying helmet to hold the goggles in place. It is not really clear which way up the goggles are supposed to be worn; the orientation of the trade mark symbols not being positive indication one way or the other. CONDITION FAIR - the leather dry but still flexible, the head band perished. NOT DISPLAYABLE ON A FIGURE.
