Shirt Collar, signed by Wing Commander Guy Gibson
Wing Commander Guy Gibson, commanding officer of No. 617 Squadron and leader of the Dam Busters raid, presented this signed collar to the designer of the bouncing bomb, Barnes Wallis.
Guy Gibson formed and led No. 617 Squadron on their first operation over Germany, Operation Chastise, the famous Dams raid of 16-17 May 1943. He completed two tours with Bomber Command and also flew as tour as a night fighter pilot. He had flown an astonishing 177 before he was killed in action in September 1944. Sadly the occasion and reason for this gift remain a mystery.
