Pilot's flying log book of Captain Charles Henry Nicholas, 24 August 1914-11 May 1917
Charles Nicholas was an officer in the South Wales Borderers and saw service at Gallipoli in 1915 where he was wounded. After recovering from his wounds he transferred to the RFC and began pilot training in 1915 at Catterick Bridge.
On completion of his flying training, Nicholas was posted to No.32 Squadron, flying the single seat pusher Airco D.H.2 fighter. No.32 Squadron were one of the first dedicated fighter squadrons in the RFC. The Squadron with Nicholas left for France in May 1916 where it conducted patrols over the Western Front. Nicholas retuned to the UK in January 1917 where he undertook instructing duties.
