FuG 212 Airborne Radar Indicator Unit

The German Air Force started to deploy radar equipped night fighters during 1941. In 1943, an improved model of the Luftwaffe’s Lichtenstein radar, the Funkgerät (FuG) 212, was introduced. The indicator enabled the radio operator to guide the fighter to within visual range of Allied aircraft.

Parachute Harness, RAF, Chest Type

Mitsubishi Ki-46 'Dinah'

This Ki-46 was captured by the British in Malaya at the end of the War. It was assessed by the Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit, South East Asia (ATAIU SEA), before coming to the UK as a museum object.

Type E Bomb Trolley

The High Capacity (HC) series of bombs ranged in weight from 2,000lbs to 12,000lbs. Their large weight of explosives was contained in a relatively thin casing to maximise blast damage. The 12,000lb HC bomb required this specialist Type E Bomb Trolley to cope with its size and weight.

22,000lb Grand Slam Bomb

The 22,000lb Grand Slam and the smaller 12,000lb Tallboy were specialist weapons devised by Barnes Wallis. They were designed to penetrate deep into the ground where the explosives created an underground cavern into which the surrounding area, and any nearby structure, would collapse.

Flying Helmet, RAF, Type C, Wired

During 1941 the Type C started to replace Type B as the standard leather Flying Helmet used by the RAF. The refined ‘wired’ version was introduced during 1944 and included an integral wiring loom.
