Aircraft & Exhibits, In Storage, 85/U/938

Approximately triangular leather holster formed from one piece of leather folded and sewn with a circular muzzle cap, a securing flap and tab fastened by a brass stud and a loop at rear to slide onto the Sam Browne belt. Above the loop a large brass buckle to which the shoulder brace can, presumably, be attached directly rather than to the belt. The loop extended with a tongue of leather pierced to be fitted with a small brass hook which presumably engages in one of the holes in the waistbelt in order to stop the holster from slipping along the belt. This hook no longer present. The buckle on the rear face much larger and more heavily constructed than the equivalent buckle on the lower end of the brace to which the brace would normally attach.

Aircraft & Exhibits, In Storage, 72/U/607

Approximately triangular leather holster formed from one piece of leather folded and sewn with a circular muzzle cap, a securing flap and tab fastened by a brass stud and a loop at rear to slide onto the Sam Browne belt. Above the loop a rectangular brass ring to which the shoulder brace can be attached directly rather than to the belt. The loop extended with a tongue of leather fitted with a small brass hook. This presumably engages in one of the holes in the waistbelt in order to stop the holster from slipping along the belt. The rear part of the holster damaged with a piece of leather roughly removed - about 1 1/2 inches by 1/2 inch. This does appear to be damage not a deliberate excision for some functional purpose. -
