Letter to Mr Samuel Chew regarding his son FS Alan David Chew, 13 August 1944
This letter was sent by Squadron Leader Philip Brentnall of No. 218 Squadron to Samuel Chew, whose son Flight Sergeant Alan David Chew, had failed to return from operations.
Flight Sergeant Chew was a Navigator on Avro Lancaster Mk I PD252, which disappeared on the night of 12/13 August 1944. Writing the following day, Squadron Leader Brentnall described FS Chew as “popular with all ranks” and “keen and efficient”. No message had been received from the crew.
