No. 417 Squadron Air Training Corps badge, Alan Chew
Navigator Alan Chew died on 12 August 1944 when his Lancaster was shot down. Prior to joining the RAF Alan was a cadet in his local Air Training Corps squadron, No. 417 based in Bilston.
The Air Training Corps was founded in 1941 to provide aviation related training to teenage boys, as a precursor to joining the RAF when an adult. Alan Chew joined his local Squadron in Bilston and this badge was once sewn onto his ATC uniform.
