Edith Honor Earl made this portrait drawing for her exhibition 'Warriors of the Empire' with the Royal Empire Society, which opened in London’s Grosvenor House in December 1944. It is one of 22 portraits by her in the RAF Museum collection (besides others elsewhere) which celebrate the contributions of Service personnel from the British colonies and Commonwealth in the Second World War.

Design of this long-range, strategic transport aircraft began in February 1959, with the first flight in January 1964. Only ten of the originally ordered thirty Belfasts were built, all for the RAF.

This target map of Kiel was issued in 1943. Maps like this were prepared for many German cities and were used to help RAF bomber crews identify particular targets during their attacks as part of the strategic air offensive in the Second World War. Kiel's docks and Submarine construction facilities are marked on the map.

Distinguished Flying Medal of Leading Aircraftman James Arthur Skingsley

Leading Aircraftman James Skingsley was acting as a stand-in crew member aboard the Vickers Wellington piloted by Squadron Leader James Booth on 18 January 1943. Attacked by a night fighter, Skinglsey ignored an order to evacuate and helped Booth save the crew and the aircraft.

Benny Goodman was born in London to a Jewish family and joined the RAF in 1939. He trained as a pilot and joined No. 617 (Dambusters) Squadron in 1944. His logbook contains the entry of his attack on the battleship Tirpitz on 29 October 1944.
