On a patch of black melton cut to shape, two large sprays of laurel arranged with a circular central panel defined by a gold wire edging enclosing a fouled anchor with R.N.V. above it, the whole surmounted by a crown. The sprays and RNV in gold wire, the anchor in silver metal with an embroidered chain, the crown in full colours. Mounted on a mohair band.

Within upswept wings, joined at the base by the crescent and star and at the top by an eight point star, a biplane. All in gold or gilded metal with a brooch pin fastening on reverse and behind the star a loop as if for a safety chain.

Circular bronze badge with a pair of crowned wings at the top. The centre lettered RAF, the outer ring enamelled dark blue and lettered PRO REGE AC FIDE. Reverse punched 2658. Crescent buttonhole fixing on reverse. Attached to the shank of the fastener by a split ring, a tag of white 'plastic' (?) hand engraved on one side in script with the name of the original owner, J. Manning, and on the other IS SERVING HIS COUNTRY AT R.A.F. and a blank space.
