Brown leather cap type helmet lined in chamois in the crown and in fur below the eye line including the peak which is turned down. Long ear flaps fitted with two press studs which enable them to be fastened back to cover single, 3/4 inch round hole in side of helmet, or to be rolled forward to become wind deflectors leaving the hole clear. Short narrow leather chin strap on right with broad, fur lined section in centre under chin, engages with leather covered buckle on left. Pair of small, leather-covered pin buckles mounted at an angle behind the ear flaps (right side buckle missing), purpose unknown. The helmet shows signs of heavy wear. The lower left side and an area above and behind the left ear patched with leather. The original fur lining crudely overlaid with another piece of fur, the pile now mostly disappeared. Condition - Fair, displayable and interesting.

Aircraft & Exhibits, In Storage, 80/U/1219
Cap type helmet with turned-up leather peak retained by press stud. The brown leather which has lost much of its original dressed surface. Lined throughout in woollen cloth. Round-ended ear flaps each fitted with a pair of press studs so that they can be worn closed or rolled forward to create wind deflectors. Flaps originally covered a circular pattern of nine small holes but the forward part of the leather has been cut away and folded back to enlarge the hole, presumably for use with radio telephones. Narrow chin strap on right engages with pin buckle on left. Condion - much worn but stable and displayable.
