Cigarette case of Flying Officer Eric Albon
Flying Officer Eric Albon, from Halifax, was a bomb aimer in No. 78 Squadron. His aircraft, Handley Page Halifax LV820, was shot down and crashed near Poix in northern France on 12 June 1944.
Although the bodies of six of Eric Albon's crewmates were recovered and buried, Eric was never found. In 1947 Eric’s widow Audrey received a package from France containing a silver cigarette case which had been discovered where his aircraft had crashed. The case, which was engraved with his initials, had been given to him by Audrey.
