Certificate of death of Sergeant Harold Ellison, 1947
This document issued by the Air Ministry Casualty Branch, officially confirms the death of Sgt Harold Ellison.
Sergeant Harold Ellison, an Air Bomber on Avro Lancaster Mk. III ND681, was killed ‘as a result of air operations’ on 15/16 March 1944. It took search teams almost three years to locate Sergeant Ellison’s grave at Poix de la Somme Churchyard in France (now Poix de Picardie). As the precise burial location was not found, the words 'buried near this spot' were recorded on his headstone.
